Shirley Stephenson is a writer and nurse practitioner who serves as a primary care and substance use provider at Mile Square Health Center. She is the medical clinician and sub-investigator for a clinical trial on cocaine use, as well as a didactic co-coordinator for an integrated substance use disorder fellowship at UIC. Shirley is a doctoral candidate in the UIC Program for Writers. Her poetry and prose have appeared in various literary journals, including Ploughshares, Fence, and the Best New Poets anthology.
