About
Dr. Swartz is a clinical psychologist with an appointment as a Professor in the Jane Addams College of Social Work, where he is also presently Interim Associate Dean for Research . For over thirty years, he has investigated substance use disorders and related mental health and chronic medical conditions among various populations including criminal justice, LGBTQ, and racial and ethnic minorities. Presently, he is the PI on a project funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services to evaluate the effects of legalizing recreational cannabis in the state. His other ongoing research interests include: co-occurring mental health, medical, and substance use disorders; the opioid overdose epidemic; providing drug checking services (DCS) to reduce opioid-overdose related fatalities; evaluation studies of medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) treatment; and use of advanced statistical analyses.
